The government of Ukraine signed another cease fire agreement with the Russia to stop the Russian invasion of Ukraine that President Putin claims is not happening. All those dead bodies and Russian prisoners are just as much an illusion as the artillery and armor the eastern rebels somehow produced.
From what has so far been published, the terms are the same ones that were not honored last Fall. We are no prophets here, but we expect the same result again. Germany’s Angela Merkel just returned from seeing Putin along with the more or less President Hollande of France. Merkel said in straightforward fashion that she expects no retreat from Putin as he has not been defeated militarily. Sensible woman, seems to us.
Too, most of Ukraine’s industrial economy has been in the east of the country where the fighting is happening. We suppose that Mr. Putin wishes to destroy as much of Ukraine’s economy as he can before he settles, if a settlement is in the cards at all.
Meantime, President Obama wants you to admire his newly responsible attitude toward the sideshow in the Middle East as he flexes his muscles toward it. His European friends aren’t all anxious to push in Ukraine; Putin is next door to them, too. Besides needing his gas and oil, they’ve been revisiting their history yet again by social in place of military, spending. Russians don’t do that …
