EDITORIAL:         From What Is Afghanistan Distracting Us?

More Americans are being shot during an average weekend in Chicago than are being shot or blown up in Afghanistan these days but the U.S. media seems not to notice that. Neither does it seem it impressed with the Congressional bills that would impose Federal power upon the states’ elections. Few are considering the ongoing U.S. financing of the Taliban that will be the price of ransoming the abandoned U.S. hostages. Fewer still are thinking of the cost of war material profits windfall awaiting those who will replace the abandoned military equipment. And the subject of Afghanistan has risen to prominence conveniently to justify reduction of attention to COVID vaccination mandates, just when inconvenient information about vaccination problems is leaking out at the fringes. Best of all, it replaces any serious attention to the unreality of current government and popular borrowing and spending, very much including the degree to which world finance is hollowed out.  With our very professional media reporting breathlessly on every thing that matters, what could possibly go wrong?
