EDITORIAL:         When Governors Refuse to Govern

Government’s monopoly on the use of force is justified by the duty to protect the governed. That is the primary justification for the very existence of human government. The mayors of Portland, Seattle and some other places seem to have forgotten their high school civics to the point that they have restrained their police from performing that function in the face of rioting mobs with which they politically sympathize. They have refused, in other words, to uphold the rule of law for their own political purposes. If these officials are reelected, that will signal that their cities have discarded the rule of law, preferring when it suits them, mob rule. History is not a good advertisement for that, which may be one reason for the mob’s vigor in trashing it.

About Jack Curtis

Suspicious of government, doubtful of economics, fond of figure skating (but the off-ice part, not so much) Couple of degrees in government, a few medals in figure skating; just reading and suspicion for economics ...

In the UK a naked man was seen walking down the street. well, not completely naked, he was wearing a face mask just not over his nose. Didn’t say if he entered a shop.

  2. con says:

Yes it was political – Oxford Street, London no less. A picture speaks a thousand words.

She’d probably make the front page upstaging royalty. But then the message would likely get lost in the medium.
