EDITORIAL:      “White Privilege” is Racist?

Lefty propagandists and indoctrinators preaching against “white privilege” are but hypocritical racists attacking whites for being white. If trashing an entire race isn’t bad enough, doing it dishonestly is worse, but that is what we get when everything is politicized.

There is not and cannot be such a thing as “white privilege”. In a white society, being the same color as most others buys you nothing. In black South Africa these days being white is often a disadvantage; racism is not a uniquely white mindset.

In liberal western white societies presently, blacks tend to be privileged: they may be provided priority over whites in education and hiring preferences for an obvious example. That doesn’t seem frequent for whites in black societies. Black privilege? Nonsense!

Racism is merely one case of a basic quality in human nature: a fear reaction to the unknown. That is a fundamental, life-protecting threat response that has helped the species avoid extermination. It is heightened in perception of other humans because we are a competitive species and that extends to killing each other in lieu of any top predators being assigned.   Each of us must learn from education and experience to manage that innate reaction in the most beneficial manner – beneficial both to the individual and to the society.

At this time, Western, i.e. white societies seem among the leaders in providing such education and in guiding experiences to this end. While the present result has not eliminated racism, it has certainly reduced it. Elimination probably awaits disposing of whatever genes are responsible for humanity’s protective fear response. Demonizing with accusations of “white privilege” is more than dishonest; is the opposite of helpful.
