Question MarkA frw simple questions occurred to us this morning, between awakening and arising:

  1. Whatever happened to the AIDS epidemic?
  2. Whatever happened to the Ebola threat?
  3. Whatever happened to the Russian invasion in Urraine?
  4. Whatever happened to al Qaeda (that toppled the World Trade Center)?
  5. The GOP controls Congress; why not just defund Obamacare instead of sending the President a repeal bill to veto?
  6. Why hasn’t the the GOP refused to fund the President’s various executive orders with which Republicans have said they disagree?

We could list more, but these should make our point. We wonder what you think …

About Jack Curtis

Suspicious of government, doubtful of economics, fond of figure skating (but the off-ice part, not so much) Couple of degrees in government, a few medals in figure skating; just reading and suspicion for economics ...

  1. Michael curtis says:

Republicans are now liberals and the media is mostly state controlled… Any more questions ?

  2. I couldn’t for the life of me tell what your point was, since most of these questions are about unrelated topics.

    1. First-world countries developed effective treatments, even though it remains incurable. In third-world countries, it continues.
    2. The threat of outbreaks remains in Africa. There was never a serious threat to the US.
    3. The Russians are paying sanction penalties, and the Ukrainians don’t like the intervention.
    4. The al Qaeda that brought down the towers is mostly dead or in disarray. They’ve been replaced by other radical groups like Boko Haram and ISIS who use the same indefensible excuse (we’re religious) for murder.
    5. Defunding the PPACA requires a change in law, so they have to send it to the President. Presidents get to veto any bill they disagree with. It takes 2/3rds to override a veto. This is all in the Constitution, you know…
    6. The GOP wants these EOs to be rendered officially “illegal”, so they decided to pursue court challenges instead of defunding.

    • Jack Curtis says:

Thank you. You obviously keep up with things. It would be nice if the media folk who raise such issues provided your information in addition to the initial frights. Unlikely, I suppose.

For the GOP response to Presidential action, I must wonder, if they are relying upon inevitably dilatory court action, how serious are their intentions? An immediate injunction will answer that, should it occur.

As for the Constitution, the poor old thing appears to be stretched farther out of shape every election cycle. Though, could we resurrect Benjamin Franklin, I doubt he would be surprised.

The most important issue in this is for me, that as government steadily increases its control of the details of our lives, the electorate decreasingly well educated and informed. Excepting those like yourself of course, but how many are they?
