The ObamaTrade Deal That Is Invisible For Our Own Good …

Trade TreatyAny conscious of events inside the Washington D.C. beltway knows that the Trans Pacific Trade Treaty is stuck in Congress with President Obama and the Republicans pushing and various Democrats pushing against its passage. Some are even aware of the Trans Atlantic Trade Treaty in its wake. And all of these folk must have heard that the contents of these bills are top secret and intended to be voted into law without any awareness from citizens. Why?

If you can think of a good reason for this secrecy, you can likely also produce a good reason for half a dozen masked gunmen to be seen entering your local bank. If you assume that ObamaTrade is in your interests, you will likely assume the same of the bank visitors.

We read that, while Congressfolk who must vote upon the deal are only allowed supervised access to the bill, several large corporations received their own copies and apparently, so did some unions since they have emerged as strong opponents of it. Wikileaks has released some of it, suggesting that the inability of the media to provide detail is self-inflicted.

We assume these days, that anyone who refuses to show his face, has something to hide. Especially when it is a politician! Those appeal for our votes in order to represent us, right? If you believe that, we have a large inventory of unsold bridges …

The Republicans to a man opposed Obamcare, that has to date proven unworkable and vastly underfinanced. The GOP has since taken control; have they repealed Obamcare? This time, the Republicans are pushing ‘against the will’ of the Democrats, except for the President. But the smell is so high that it may not fly for now. If it doesn’t watch the pieces slip past later.

We seem now to have a one party system, with Dem and GOP wings trading off and all others excluded. And: We the People have less and less to say.

Someone kindly explain how wrong that assessment is … please?

  1. This voting ‘stand-off’ is very similar to the one that existed when Bush was pushing the bailouts, only the names have been changed. Of course, the bailouts passed eventually (after who knows what backroom deals) and we got to toss I don’t know how many billions of dollars into the abyss. This will probably get strong-armed through somehow and the results will undoubtedly be worse.
