Gleanings From The Passing Scene … (Politically Uncorrected)

Alfred_E__NeumannBits and pieces of the recent reality (and unreality) of human experience, arrayed for your information and analysis. A tapestry of current human affairs …

The Khorosan Islamic terrorist group that President Obama felt a need to attack in Syria as a “greater threat than ISIS” now reportedly does not exist. Not a result of airstrikes though,  a result of its own non-existence in the first place.(And you can keep your doctor …)

The California  drought has  a backstory: The state invested billions over decades to construct the water system – aqueducts, dams, reservoirs etc on a massive scale to keep its cities and farmers going in the periodic dry spells the state has always suffered. Much of that accumulated water that would be so nice to have now, in cities and in the once green agricultural paradise, the Central Valley, has reportedly supplied the environmental safety net for the Delta Smelt, a small fish of the Sacramento delta and environs. It seems to require a lot of spring runoff for its happiness, more than remained after the water storage projects were finished.  So it appears that  Hypomesus transpacificus, is more important to the government than people or food. (The scientific name is longer than the fish.)

Obamacare it turns out, funds abortions – never mind the Presidential denial.

The President of  Ukraine  , in a recent Washington visit, pleaded with Congress for aid. But you have already heard all about it from the media, right?

The NFL has announced its partnership with domestic abuse hotlines, a response to media fuss about highly paid ball players beating up their wives. We’re awaiting the fuss over black teens beating up elderly and female white pedestrians in their ‘knockout’ game …

Congressfolk recently drew favorable publicity for their intent to kill off the Export/Import Bank, a long time boondoggle of billions for business that should have died decades back. Having achieved the publicity, Congress quietly extended the program, again.

The LA Times  reported that nature, not man, is responsible for global warming (If any). Next thing you know, it will be supporting Republicans again …

Drone Strikes  have now been used by the Iranian-spnsored Lebanese Islamic terrorists Hezbollah, a first.

A Woman  was badly beaten on a Brooklyn subway after asking some teen girls to restrain their swearing in the presence of young children. No racial data were provided.

The U.S. air traffic control system design for the future has apparently, somehow failed to provide for Drones . We have to wonder whether the designers are in any manner connected to the designers of the Obamacare website?

The city of Seattle   is said to be concerned about food waste. A new law fines homeowners, apartments and restaurants that include more than 10% food waste in their trash pickups. When one considers the real world aspects of this, one wonders what sort of leaf is being smoked at City Hall …

The Mysterious  cell phone intercept towers around Washington, D.C. now number some 15, with the owner remaining unidentified. Others have been found around the country, mostly near military facilities. No comment has been obtainable from the Federal government, which is our candidate for ownership. (Smile; you’re on Candid Camers!)

Student Debt  is at an all-time high of $1.2 T. Weren’t these college grads going to lead the country to wealth for all if we just made their educations possible at our expense? How does that work when they graduate as servants indentured  to debt?

The trend for cops to seize any significant cash from folks encountered, sans warrant or even reasonable cause, has led Canada   to warn its citizens not to travel the U.S with cash.  We recall when this sort of thing was characteristic of poor, corrupt countries, only. Hmnn … Come to think of it …

Attorney General  Eric Holder had to resign, because he is black if you are a Democrat, because he is an unprincipled, incompetent political hack otherwise.

An Electronic Boot has been provided subprime auto lenders: IIf you miss a loan payment, your car’s electronic ignition can be shut off remotely by the lender. Hmnn … wonder what happens with loans on private aircraft?

The linked Maps show the increase in college-educated folk since 1979. The economic condition of the country illustrates how well this expensive policy has repaid us, right?

Euthanasia  Bulletin: He’s 89, she’s 86 and neither want to be left alone. They have arranged to depart together, with professional help. Isn’t that sweet?

Chicago     Weekend: 2 dead, 14 wounded in shootings across the city. Peace in the Gun Control capital.

While the EPA  was testifying on capping carbon for power production in Congress, the lights  went out from a power failure. God, or His replacement, has a sense of humor …

As regular readers know, we try if we can, to end these Saturday excursions on a light and hopefully, humorous note. For this, we offer: The  Postal Service   wishes to augment its declining mail service by adding the delivery of groceries to its services. We leave you to consider that …

And so closes another week of the commedia humana, in all its glory and ridiculousness …

About Jack Curtis

Suspicious of government, doubtful of economics, fond of figure skating (but the off-ice part, not so much) Couple of degrees in government, a few medals in figure skating; just reading and suspicion for economics ...

  1. “The LA Times reported that nature, not man, is responsible for global warming (If any). ”

Now that could really throw a wrench in our protests. Who do you tax? Who do you fine? Does mother nature even have a complaint department? I mean the implications are staggering, what if we can’t control our environment?? There ought to be a law against such things!

  2. Jack Curtis says:

🙂 (Maybe the laws are in place already, called: “Physics”) Not to worry though, I’m not sure public schools are even aware of that stuff nowadays …

  3. Posties delivering groceries? Didn’t they just get equipped with a whole lot of armaments? Let’s see – together with a slip of paper to each door, 4pints of milk, a gallon of water, 6 bottle of vino, 24 cans of beer, sundry groceries – front door is open (I’ll be hiding in the back garden).

    • Jack Curtis says:

The thought left me mumbling, drawing strange glances from passers-by ,,,
      But I’m reasonably confident that:
      1. The delivery fee will exceed the cost of the groceries, and
      2. The Sunday groceries will be delivered without fail.on Monday.

  4. michael Curtis says:

One thing I would like repeated as much as possible about the delta smelt is that it is NOT native to California nor is it endangered. It was a bait fish that got away and thrived. But that kind of thing happens when liberals are in charge. I am waiting for it to become a pest that needs to be eliminated by the state…

    • Jack Curtis says:

I wonder why that story has been left out of the reporting? And recalling that salmon once ran up the Los Angeles River (and most other southern California streams), I wonder when the greenies will want all the concrete torn out to restore them …
