Some human antics continue to confuse us. For one, given that Western Judeo-Christian society has produced most of the technology that is moving life further into comfort and most of the wealth in sight that is not stolen, why are we so anxious to dump all those old patterns for the same ones that have impoverished the rest of the world? Is that smart?
Why, since the ancient Book of Psalms told us to: “Put not they trust in princes” and Americas’ Founders not only told us that, but provided a Constitution to prevent it, are we regularly voting for politicians who promise to give us more if we will just provide them a bigger government, with more power that collects higher taxes? Does that make any sort of sense?
And after Rome failed and China failed and the Soviets collapsed, have we bought into the idea that America can somehow solve the problems of all the places that repudiate American ideas by exporting money and troops to them? Don’t we support shrinks who take care of folks who rely on hope over experience?
Finally, noting that archeologists assure us of the extinction of all of our predecessor species, does this pattern suggest that Homo sapiens is up for a Darwin Award? We don’t seem to be learning much when it comes to governing ourselves …
But from a distance, we’re likely pretty entertaining to an audience with a sense of humor!
And why do we reelect over and over, those Congressfolk who arrive in Washington, D.C. without a fortune and seem inevitably to leave with one? Don’t we realize whose money enriches government?
We are unfortunately, reminded of a book: “The Silence Of The Lambs” And of the:
THE DARWIN AWARD
