Gleanings From The Passing Scene … (Politically Uncorrected)

Alfred_E__NeumannWelcome to the Week’s Worth: Significant events and reports (we think) spread before you with a seasoning of silly or funny — you decide.

Tesla, the electric car maker surviving to date (Thank you, taxpayers!), is hampered by the crony capitalists; New Jersey Governor Christie (R) has just signed off on a new law preventing Tesla from selling its cars in that state. Other states have already joined in — seems Tesla wants to sell direct to consumers and the dealers of other brands are leaning on their politicians to prevent it. We remember when cutting out the middleman was a great American way of lowering prices. Guess that’s not how America’s ‘crony capitalism’ works these days.

Fellow obtained a permit from the state and built a pond on his 8 acres, for which he is now facing a $75,000 per day fine from the EPA. You don’t own land these days, you share it with the government … which does not pay for its share.

An 81 year old grandma went to jail for allowing her little dogs to escape. (Moral: Never annoy the always compassionate government.)

Wealthier countries, researchers say, tend to be more Godless. Some folks knew that without research, just by reading those old Scriptures …

Seems the U.S. government has given up the fightto keep control of the internet. It’s turning ICANN, the internet administrator, loose and will be replaced by some sort of international organization. The stated reason: Pressure from all the other countries. The unstated reason: Citizens have prevented achievement of control and taxation of the net.

Your government has spent $172 million of your money on penis pumps. We have nothing to add to this; we only comment on economic inflation.

Russian companies  are apparently pulling billions out of Western banks for fear of sanctions over Ukraine freezing accounts, according to reports from Russian banks. The games our politicians play can cost real people, real money. And when the economy and the banks are in no condition, too!

Gaza has taken up rocketing Israel again, just as U.S. Secretary of State Kerry is lecturing the damnable Jews on their “unwise” demand for the Arabs to recognize the Jewish state. Perhaps what the Israelis need to learn, is to stop recognizing Secretary Kerry?

Our President has signed another Executive Order; this one deprives citizens of their Constitutional property rights and their rights to due process if the Prez thinks they are somehow interfering in Ukraine. We didn’t know that the Prez could abrogate the Constitution at will, did you?

the Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that government workers cost 45% more than those in the private sector. Your taxes at … work? (A California schools superintendent for example, was earning $663k.)

Warning: If you’ve been planning to balance the rise in beef prices by eating more pork; forget it. A new pig virus is killing hogs in the millions … and you know what that will do to prices!

Another cop arrested a citizen for making a video of said cop’s work in a public place. Cops don’t seem to like that. Said citizen is receiving a “landmark settlement” for the arrest. (Be sure you have your cellphone next time you see a cop on duty.)

A professor of ‘female studies’ was charged for assaulting a pro-life teen … So proceeds ‘higher’ education, these days.

President “You can keep your doctor” Obama very quietly delayed the IRS individual Obamacare IRS penalty until after the 2016 election. As King Louis XIV so famously put it: “Apres moi, le deluge!”

Two five story East Harlem buildings suddenly blew up, killing 2 and disappearing a bunch more. The terrorist here seems to be the local gas company. Our cities sit on a lot of aging utility problems and the media lets them.

A high school student was suspended for wearing an National Rifle Association T-shirt.

Another policing action turned into a cavalry charge by militarized cops.

2 teens murdered a classmate, a woman’s finger was bitten off in a parking lot fight and two Taco Bell employees shot and killed their manager. You jest can’t irritate anybody anymore …

2 college kids were arrested for dangling their dog in front of a beer keg and making him lick up beer. Pet ownership is getting too expensive these days, if you have to provide beer!

A suicide bomber blew himself up while parking. We knew parking can be frustrating …

And so another week’s worth of our ever-renewing paste-up of the current human condition. A thin slice of the present reality in which we dwell, all yours.

About Jack Curtis

Suspicious of government, doubtful of economics, fond of figure skating (but the off-ice part, not so much) Couple of degrees in government, a few medals in figure skating; just reading and suspicion for economics ...

  1. You made me laugh. We really are a ridiculous species, aren’t we?

  2. Jack Curtis says:

We are the Human Comedy; the clowns of the universe … Our saving grace, if one exists: Some of us can laugh at ourselves …
