Islam, Christianity and Politics Today (And a Mysteriously Disappearing Airplane)

IslamSir Winston Churchill compared Muslims to rabid dogs, with an implicit apology to the dogs. As this is written, an airliner has mysteriously vanished from the sky without explanation in southeast Asia; the worldwide Islamic jihad naturally jumps into mind. It may no fit as more is learned of the event, but it is everyone’s first supposition.

Islam is the only major religion that offers conversion or death today. It has done so since the seventh century and continues to offer that choice today in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and wherever else it can. It is the only significant religion that proselytizes with corpses and still punishes its adherents with eye-gouging, amputation of hands, whipping and stoning people to death. Its more fundamentalist purveyors disapprove of any but religious education generally and of any education at all for girls and readily demonstrate that by murdering students and teachers.

Some point out that the overwhelming majority of Moslems don’t do such things, a truth. But that truth overlooks the facts that such behavior has accompanied Islam from its inception to today, everywhere it appears to any degree and the behavior is invariably subsidized by a significant portion of the Islamic population. Nor does the remainder rise up in revulsion or even disavow the pattern to any great extent. It is a natural part of the religion, and has always been so. Christians in the Middle East are particular current victims.

Murderous Moslems aren’t the only persecutors of today’s Christians; Western governments, along with intellectual ‘leaders’ of the public are turning against both Christians and Jews,. The American government has passed legislation (Obamacare) directly attacking major precepts of the Roman Catholic church and pressured Christian military chaplains to perform marriages for homosexual couples. Courts are ordering the removal of crosses from public places in the U.S. while simultaneously mandating allowing employees to sport Islamic beards on uniformed duty, a violation of employer dress codes for police and security personnel.

Christianity has evolved into a civilized religion and a force for both peace and progress. It is nevertheless being cast off in the West, with nothing to replace it either as an ethical guide for society or as a restraint upon the worst inclinations of the state. Islam has yet to evolve into civilization and rather than a restraint, licenses the worst inclinations of both individuals and the state. It excuses those so long as the case can be made that they are spreading Islam, or defending it. For Islam, the ends justify the means, an ethical contradiction long rejected by Christianity.

This adds up to Western politicians using Islam in their desire to extirpate the restrictions imposed upon them by Christianity; the Islamists are happy to be used as it furthers their programs. Should the Moslems attain significant political power in the West, the politicians may rue their devil’s bargain. In the meantime, the religion sits like a suffocating blanket upon the prospects  for a decent life if much of the world.

It will find survival difficult in an educated population, which is why its jihadists attack schools. But public education in America is ‘dumbing down’ to the point that it may soon be less threatening to Islam. If Dr. Stephen Hawking is correct and human survival as a species rests upon finding a way off the planet, the combination of western politicians and Islam may amount to what is needed to prevent the escape, while making life miserable in the meantime.
