Alfred_E__NeumannA weeks’s worth of events. observations and opinions…all for you. Consume, and react as you feel inclined…

Students at a Utah school were deprived of their lunches because their parents had not paid for them. The school’s principal is now in big trouble. We have only one question here: Why were the students given the lunches in the first place?

The U.S. cattle herd is at the lowest ebb since 1951; watch for soaring beef prices. A result they say, of recent drought…

A New York City school axed its gifted program because the class was insufficiently diverse..If the right people aren’t lined up, nobody gets served, right?

The new, bipartisan farm bill just passed; recognizing the slow economy and difficult times, Congress only increased agricultural spending by 49% over 2008 per the report. Not to worry, though; Congress had no idea where it would find the money it spent in 2008!.

A Philadelphia teen was beaten on the street by two classmates while a 3rd photographed for Facebook and laughed.

Liberals drink more booze than conservatives per a study and have a lower IQ according to Harvard.but a higher IQ according to others… Maybe it’s all hokum?

A 77 year old man had a heart attack and died across the street from a firehouse. . The firefolk refused to help until they were dispatched by 911; when someone finally called 911, responders were sent from the wrong location to another wrong location. We did not hear that any firefolk attended the funeral.

Taxpayers were privileged to pay 2013 interest on the Federal debt of $415 B.

The Pentagon, that recently ordered all chaplains to perform gay marriages under pain of court martial, has approved new regulations allowing beards, turbans and hijabs for Moslem military.

  1. James Teague says:

    1. On turbans: I think this was last all the rage in the Civil War. Since the Rough Riders in the Spanish/Cuban fray we have had “uniformed sevices” sort of, at least within units.

    2. Regarding SOAR and diversity: This is kindergarten so it probably doesn’t make a huge amount of difference except to the parent’s pride in little Susy and Johnny. Equal access does not mean equal results unless one wants to legislate away the normal curve. Find the best of the other ethnic groups and get them up to the higher level achievement, don’t throw out the little support there is for the hard working, high achieving.
Failure in AP classes rests around 50% as it should to be truly representative of college level work. What will happen is this will be deemed unacceptable and the push will be on to make the tests easier, not the students able to do more. Common Core does not even come close to what AP classes require.
Here in LAUSD Advanced Placement classes are now going to be assigned by lottery instead of academic preparation. If academically qualified students are denied entry on the lottery basis they should sue school boards with this mentality. All twenty AP physics students in one such school failed to pass the test last year.

Exactly so! New Mexico, a perennial cellar dweller on education, has just improved its deplorable high school graduation rate… by reducing the graduation requirements.
