Gleanings From The Passing Scene…(Politically Uncorrected)

Alfred_E__NeumannAnother week having evaporated somehow, we present you some of the leftovers in search of significance.

Mall shooting: 3 dead. We seem to be getting used to piles of corpses in malls, movies and schools. Our parents would have been shocked, What has changed? And why?

Senator (NY) Chuck Schumer has publicly told the IRS to pursue the Tea Party. Senior American politicians are now pushing the use of government agencies for partisan political purposes, and publicly at that. That is about a half-step from going after the opposition with the secret police and the military. Maybe we ought to be doing some thinking…

The President will be taking on global warming in his upcoming ‘State of the Union’ speech, which is predicted to be the coldest day in history for said speech. Our millionaire Chief Executive will also discuss ‘income inequality.’

A 13 year old semi-conscious girl lying on a snow-covered sidewalk was ignored by passers-by until finally a man rescued her. We suspect our parents would be shocked at this, too; again, what has changed?

Argentina has suffered still another, this time 15% devaluation of its currency. A Samsung Galaxy 4 smart phone costing 8,000 Pesos shot to 12,000 Pesos. “He who has ears to hear, let him hear…”

China is becoming bellicose, pushing border conflicts with India and threatening Japan, the Philippines, Indonesia and of course, Taiwan over islands that are claimed by others under international agreements. China, ignoring the agreements (to which it is signatory) is using its military aggressively to pursue its claims. Maybe China needs a war to refurbish the mandate of heaven? It is lighting matches around gunpowder.

An American tourist in Thailand was trampled to death…by elephants. We assume he must have been a Democrat, poor fellow…

The Dow dropped over 300 points this week. It seems to be tracking not stock prices, but a yo-yo. This sort of regular volatility usually indicates a market full of emotional pricing and heavily prone to sudden collapse. You won’t be able to say you weren’t warned…”He who has eyes to see, let him see.”(Expert opinion: HERE)

Ukraine, like too many other places, is descending into turmoil. Short version: It is half full of Russians exported there by Stalin during WWII and half full of Ukrainians. The Ukrainians want to link with Europe; the Russians want to link with Russia. The last president was Ukrainian and is now in jail; the current president is Russian and moving the country East. The pro-E.U.Ukrainians are the troublesome opposition. In the wings, Putin wants Ukraine back as part of Russia or at least, under its wing. A historical hot spot lighting up again…

Dinesh D’Souza, the filmmaker behind a very successful, anti-Obama documentary, has been indicted by the Department of Justice for campaign finance violations. Also, the IRS  is now going after a conservative Hollywood group… Hmnn…

Swedes are now buying private health insurance to beat the long waits for government health care. Damn, somebody’s always trying to break the line…

A woman walked between the camera and the group being photographed, for which she was beaten to death. Guess she won’t do that again!

Food Stamps are now going to a record 20% of American households… What a recovery we’re having!

The Commissioner of the NFL is paid $28.5 M annually by the tax-free professional National Football League. We thought you’d like to know…

We’re told that doctors prefer to die without life-extending therapies. A New Mexico judge has ruled that doctors are free to help patients die when requested. Obamacare requires “end of life counseling” services. Is anyone beginning to see a picture?

We understand that the Social Security Administration misreports some 1,000 deaths monthly… wonder how that’s going to work on the Obamacare website?

And finally, you’ll be relieved to know that the United Nations plans to take up the internationally grave matter of a U.S. professional ball club using the offensive name of “Redskins.” We aren’t making this up, honest!

And so this weeks’ news nuggets, laid out for your selection of the juiciest or least fattening or healthiest as you please.
