Black Market Barbie in Iran?

The powerful Ayatollahs ruling Iran threaten the U.S. Navy, Europe and Israel but those powers seem to shrug off the threats. Maybe they need to reconsider in the light of what’s happening in Iran to another major power: the world-wide financial steamroller called: “Barbie.” Iran Shuts Down Shops Selling Barbie Dolls will update the curious reader.

Barbie is small, but she rules an enormous population: young girls wherever TV, the Internet or toy advertising penetrates, which is of course now everywhere. And one third of Iranians are under 15 years old.

The sour, stodgy old Ayatollahs are appalled at Western, bikini-wearing Barbie (forget Ken!), seeing her as an infiltration likely worse than so many Israeli spies. First, they pushed competing dolls: modestly garbed twins Sara and Dara, who predictably bombed. Now, their continuing war on Barbie has escalated with shops closed and sellers punished but as the report points out, the country is still full of Barbies.

Iranians, the Persians of yore, are a sophisticated people with a very long history as merchants. Largely Moslem but not Arabs, they are far less conservative or wedded to a 14th century outlook as many of their Arab neighbors have or the Iranian ruling Ayatollahs would like. Maybe the next hot seller in Iran will be: “Black Market Barbie,” sold wearing a plain black  Afghan burka with a bikini underneath.

On second thought, perhaps the Americans and Europeans are correct not worrying over Iranian threats to close oil trade routes…Iran has already been invaded and occupied, by Barbie. Can Ken be far behind?
